Michi Osaka's art is
a contemporary fusion of Eastern and Western style. Her art is a direct
expression on surface becoming a visual sensation - an immediate vision
of rhythm and mood. She is drawn to the colors of the 15th century Italian
artist who employed color as an important and convincingly harmonious
and beautiful form. To these artisans/masters of yesteryear color was
considered an important means to enrich earthly life. It is from this
Renaissance era that Michi has found inspiration to create her own stylized
expression. Quoting on art critic, Michi's art transcends her east/west
points of view to inform the viewer unmistakeably that hers is an excitingly
original artistic vision. Michi's creativeness in art
has been honored with six best of show; awards within a recent seven year
period in several regional and national juried exhibitions. She has been
in numerous group shows in addition to 11 solo exhibitions throughout
the Northwest. Michi's academic background includes a Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington where she was a one-time recipient of a Ford Foundation Award. She has also earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Puget Sound. She has studied artistic styles and art forms under the tutelage of Akira Kurokaki of Japan, Jacob Lawrence, and Glen Alps. |
